A reminder that the Top 25 Marketing Blogs are ranked according to the number of sites/blogs linking to each, according to Technorati. The number you see after the blog name is how many sites/blogs Technorati claims have linked to the blog in the last 6 months. After that number is a positive or negative number, and this represents how many links the blog gained or lost from last week's Top 25. The final stat tells you what position the blog held in the Top 25 Last Week (LW). If you see this; (LW - UR), it means the blog wasn't ranked last week.

With this week's countdown, the Top 25 enters its third year. In April of 2006 when the first Top 25 list was posted, the criteria was pretty narrowly defined as being blogs that focused primarily on traditional marketing and branding. But since then, and in the last few months in particular, there's been an increasing level of discussion on this and most marketing blogs, on using social media as an effective communications tool for marketers. Since the Top 25 was always intended to be a resource first and foremost, greater emphasis on the blog's coverage of social media topics is playing an increasing role in its inclusion in the Top 25. And given that all of the blogs in the Top 25 exhibit great authority (according to Technorati or others), it also is a credit to the bloggers' ability to navigate and thrive in the growing field of social media.

Now that the explanation and spontaneous back-patting is out of the way, on to this week's list. It seems as if most of the Top 25 mirrored the rest of the blogosphere, and took a quiet entry into 2008. There were only 2 blogs having double-digit moves, and 5 that had no change (which could have been hiccups on Technorati's part). A couple of 'bands' of tightly bunched blogs has developed, in spots 10-14, and 17-20.

The usual suspects stayed hot, with Logic+Emotion, Conversation Agent, and Experience Curve all keeping their hot streaks alive. The lone new entry is Every Dot Connects, making an impressive debut splashdown at #23.

Next update is next Wednesday.
